Soprano Gillian Watson cultivates a highly desired combination of bright shimmer and rich depth throughout her sound. Her voice has been noted as having "both power and incredible sweetness."

Her most recent engagements include the title role in Tchaikovsky's last opera, Iolanta with the Russian Opera Workshop. She has also just finished a residency as a Fellow at the prestigious CoOPERAtive program at Westminster Choir College. Some of her favorite roles include Donna Elvira from Don Giovanni (Mozart) with New York Lyric Opera Theater, Fiordiligi from Così fan tutte (Mozart) with both Riverside Lyric Opera and the Bethesda Summer Music Festival, Giulietta in Hawkmore Lyric Opera’s inaugural production of Bellini’s I Capuleti e i Montecchi and covered the role of Donna Anna in Don Giovanni for Pacific Opera Project.

Gillian has previously participated in the Russian Opera Workshop, where she portrayed Joan of Arc in the Philadelphia premiere of Tchaikovsky’s The Maid of Orleans, and Lyric Opera Studio Weimar, where she was seen as Donna Anna in Don Giovanni. She has also performed the Mother in Hansel and Gretel and covered the title role in Carlisle Floyd's Susannah, both with Red River Lyric Opera. Additionally, some of her favorite roles she has performed include Countess Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro, Mimì in La Bohème and Rosalinda in Die Fledermaus.


For the upcoming season, Ms. Watson was selected as a finalist in the MIOpera competition and will be traveling to Chicago at the end of January to compete. In June of this year she will traveling to Minneapolis, Minnesota to sing Donna Anna in Don Giovanni (Mozart) as part of the Luke A. Housner Summer Opera Workshop (LAH-SOW). She will also be making her role debut as Violetta Valéry from Verdi's La Traviata as part of the 2020 Bay View Music Festival in Michigan. 

Ms. Watson holds both her Bachelor of Music ('09) and Master of Music ('13) degrees from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music where she studied with César Ulloa. Until her passing, she was continuing her studies with Carol Neblett in Los Angeles, California.  In October of 2018 she relocated from Los Angeles to New York where she is actively auditioning and performing.
